All Study Rooms

  1. Except for Study Room #1 reservations made in accordance with the policies below, all rooms are available on a first-come, first-served basis and will be able to be used for at least 2 hours unless we are closing. If no one is waiting, you may stay longer. If someone is waiting, the longest-staying person will be asked to leave.

  2. Patrons who are at least 11 years old and have a photo ID or a Greenwood County Library card may sign up for a Study Room on a first-come, first-served basis at the Reference Desk. Digital images of a photo ID or library card may not be substituted for the actual item.

  3. No food or beverages are allowed, except for water in a sealable container and baby bottles for infants and toddlers.

  4. Maximum attendance for each room is limited to 6 people, per the Fire Marshal.

  5. The person who has signed up for or reserved the room must be present for the entire time that the room is in use.

  6. The rooms may not be used for personal events or personal social activities. This includes but is not limited to weddings, bridal/baby showers, and birthday parties.

  7. Meetings planned as commercial endeavors or to advertise products or services are prohibited.

  8. You must start packing up fifteen (15) minutes before the Library closes.

  9. Only the Library System and Friends of the Greenwood County Library System may sponsor fundraising activities on Library premises. Other individuals and groups are not permitted to engage in fundraising activities or to charge fees or admission to programs held on Library premises. Club dues and other shared costs within an organization are not considered fees. With Library approval, educational entities may charge reasonable tuition costs.

  10. Purely social functions may be sponsored by the Library, the Friends of the Library, or as part of the ongoing activities of groups that meet in the Library regularly.

  11. Nothing may be affixed to the walls of the rooms. In the event of any damage to Library property and/or equipment, the person who has signed up for or reserved the room will be liable.

  12. All Study Room users must comply with the Library’s policies and Code of Conduct. The person who has signed up for or reserved the room is responsible for insuring the compliance of all attendees at his/her event. Individuals and groups that disturb Library activities or Library users will be denied future use of these rooms. The Library reserves the right to revoke Study Room privileges at any time when conditions warrant such action.

  13. Patrons using a room on a first-come, first-served basis who leave that room vacant for more than 15 minutes will forfeit the remainder of their guaranteed time and the room will be made available to other users.

  14. The Library is not responsible for any property, personal or otherwise, which is brought onto or into any of the Library's premises. The Library user is responsible for his/her property and specifically waives any subrogation rights against the Library. Further, the user of Library property is responsible for any negligent personal injury or property damage caused by the individual or any member of his/her group while on Library premises. The Library user agrees to hold the Library harmless for any personal injury or property damage caused by the individual user or any member of his/her group.

  15. The Library reserves the right to monitor the use of the Study Rooms.

Study Room #1 Reservation Policies

  1. Study Room #1 is available to groups and individuals on an equitable basis, regardless of the beliefs or affiliations of groups and individuals requesting their use. The right of a group to meet in the public library does not constitute an endorsement of the group's policies or beliefs by the Greenwood County Library System. The needs of the Library System and its affiliates take precedence over those of other organizations. The Library reserves the right to limit use where the demands for meeting space so require, and, when necessary, the Library will notify a group as soon as possible if its scheduled room use needs to be cancelled.

  2. All reservations must be approved by the Library Director or designee. Reservations for Study Room #1 will be scheduled through the Reference Desk or online at: https://www.gwdlibrary.org/reserve-room. An application is considered pending until it has been submitted and confirmation has been received from Library staff.

  3. The applicant must be an adult. Greenwood County resident applicants must hold a current library card for the Greenwood County Library System, and owe less than $10 in fines/fees to be in good standing. Out-of-county applicants may reserve the room without a Greenwood County Library card if they are providing services for Greenwood County residents.

  4. Study Room #1 is reservable for up to 3 hours at a time.

  5. Reservations will be cancelled if the applicant has not arrived or cancelled the reservation within 30 minutes of its approved start time. Applicants whose reservations are marked as no-shows three (3) times within three (3) months will be prohibited from reserving Study Room #1 for one (1) month.

  6. If there are no reservations for the room, it may be used in accordance with the policies described in the “All Study Rooms” section.
